Changes:

March 2014:

Tier Levels changed

All Group A tournaments and above have had their Tier levels increased

New Group B1 added

South Island Champs changed to Group B1
New Group D added (if less than required entries)

Base Points for early rounds have been increased – for tournaments with R32 and greater

The top 4 results are divided by 4 (even if less than 4 results)

This removes the need for a ‘B’ List.  Just 1 result (divided by 4) displays on the list

1st time players:  U19 moving up to Seniors no longer carry forward any points.

March 2010:

Tier Levels changed

South Island Championships changed from Tier 8 to Tier 11

All Group B tournaments changed from Tier 7 to Tier 8

All Group C tournaments changed from Tier 4 to Tier 5

In 2005, Badminton NZ introduced a player points system based on the IBF system.  Points are awarded for all Badminton NZ Senior and Junior events as per the Tier schedule.  Points are awarded in all 5 disciplines, with both players in doubles gaining points – not the pair.

Ø        A player’s top four results only are counted in the overall points total for each discipline
The top 4 results are divided by 4 (even if less 4 results)

Ø        Points for the previous 12 months are used when generating the points reports

Ø        1st time players moving up to a higher category carry forward 67% of last year’s results – except for U19 moving up to Seniors

Ø        Player points are displayed for singles, doubles and mixed and are available for use by officials seeding subsequent events.

Ø        Points Schedule:

Points are awarded to the winners and all other losers depending on how far they progressed.  Points are awarded regardless of numbers of entries.

Points awarded are base points multiplied by Tier Factor

Base Points:

Winner             50                   Runner Up             42.5

3/4                   35                   5/8                        27.5

9/16                 20                   17/32                      15

33/64               10                   65/128                    7.5

129/256             5

Tier Factor:

                        21 – 160                        20 – 152                    19 - 144

                        18 – 136                        17 – 128                    16 - 120

                         15 - 112                        14 - 104                      13 - 96

                          12 - 88                         11 - 80                       10 - 72

                            9 - 64                          8 - 56                          7 - 48

                            6 - 40                          5 - 32                          4 - 24

                            3 - 16                           2 - 8                             1 – 1

NB:  Not all Tier levels are in use, but are left in place to make it easier to adjust Player Points in future, if we have to.

eg.  Winner of North Island Open (Tier 15)  =  50 x 112  =  5600

Losing Semi Finalist in Wellington U19 (Tier 10) = 35 x 72 = 2520
