Should I only play in higher ranked tournaments to get a better ranking ?

You get higher points the further you advance through a tournament

Losing in an earlier round of a high tournament may not give you as many points as getting to the semis in a lower tournament.   (NB:  You only get half the available points if you lose the first match that you actually play – walkovers don’t count)

Eg.  From the tables in the policy page you can compare points

Winning the Hutt Valley 16s ( 16s Group B – Tier 7 ) gives 1900 points

Making the semis in Hutt Valley 18s (or Waikato 16s) gives 2100 points

Making the quarters (round of 8) in the North Island 16s gives 1980 points

Making Round of 16 in Waikato 18s gives 1920 points

Making Round of 32 in the NZ 18s gives 1500 points

How can I improve my ranking ?

Work out what the lowest score is in your ‘best 6 results’ and aim to better that.

~ From the ‘By Player – showing points awarded in each event’ report, find you name  (use CTRL + F to search for your name)

~ Determine which results make the top six

~ Find the lowest one of these – that is the points value that you need to better to improve your ranking

Why aren’t all my results showing ?

~ your most recent results may not have been entered into the system yet
~ check on the Points page to see if your Tournament is listed in the Results& Points boxes
if it is – check the report date – to see if the latest reports include this tournament
if it is’nt  - check at the bottom of the Points page to see if your latest tournament has been received

~ maybe you have 2 entries for your name – check if there is another spelling of your name

~ maybe your results have been awarded to another player
~ ensure any errors are corrected
~ ensure that Tournament organizers have your correct Player Number

What happens from one year to the next ?.

My daughter was 14's last year and is 16's this year.  How does the system place her, i.e. the whole of last year she played 14s tournaments, and has not played any 16s yet this year.  Her name doesn’t seem to appear in the Under 15's player points, however that list does cover the last 12 months

~ All Ages have been 'rolled forward' for this year, however all points are carried forward

~ She will NOT appear in the Under 15s listing for 2007 as she is no longer able to play Under 15s in 2007.

~ Her points are the same - whichever report you use
