Signing Off J

Back to Newsletter

I’ve been unsuccessful in my application for the National Development Manager (NDM) job and my current position as North Island Manager is being dis-established but I’ll be working through until November 17th so this is my last newsletter for Badminton NZ.  I’d like to offer my sincere best wishes to Simon Maister as he takes up the role of NDM.

It’s been an honour and privilege to be in a position to meet all the people involved in badminton around NZ.

I’ve been very lucky in that most of the people I’ve helped in associations or clubs have really appreciated it and supported me.  I always see that as a bonus rather than an expectation but it means a lot – thank you to them it’s been great getting to know you.

Working with Martin Andrew, Svend Sorensen and Li Feng in the office over the last 3 years has been brilliant!!!  Not many people really know how good it was or the work we did or how some of us bounced off each other, but we do, and the people we helped know and that’s what counts.  In 2003 myself, then Martin then Svend were hired and in 2006 we’ve all gone in the reverse order so perhaps it’s a good time to move on.

The roadshows were great fun – those on tour this year know about the goat slaying ha ha – (refers to some goats I managed to avoid while driving in the Gisborne Gorge J).

One of the best parts has been getting to know a lot of the players at all levels.  You guys have all you need inside you, to go reach for your dreams – it’s hard figuring out sometimes what that dream is, but once you find it, never ever let anyone tell you that you can’t do it.  The only way to find out if you can, is to go for it J.  If you work hard enough, are willing to work through the tough times, and want it badly enough, then most of the time you can do it - but it’s still got to be fun eh J.   We all have things about us that are the same as each other and some that are different.  But sometimes those things that are naturally different about us gives us an edge, and is what our true friends whenever and wherever we meet them, value in us.  Catch you at some of the tourneys next year.

Its been fun J, and I’m going to miss it, I’ve had my time in the role, gave it my best shot and enjoyed it.

Thanks for the memories!
