Division One to be the top 9 teams from the North Island and the rest are split into Regions

Within each Region:
~ there will be pools of teams in ability order with the ‘remainder’ split into 2 groups with play offs
~ teams will progress up the divisions until they reach Div 2 – where they play off for the right to move up to Division 1

To ensure that the ‘remainder’ get a reasonable number of ties, the sizes of pools may vary from one year to another.

Masters Division 2 for each region would be kept at 7 teams – 3 weekends of 2 ties with the 4th weekend used for play offs between top 2 of Div 2 NR and Div 2 CR

See below for pool sizes depending on entries

If we had used this option in 2007 the sizing would have been:

Masters:

Division 1          9

Northern Region             Central Region

  Div 2   7                                    Div 2   7

  Div 3   7                                    Div 3   6

  Div 4   7                                    Div 4   6

  Div 5   6

Veterans:

Division 1          9

Northern Region             Central Region

  Div 2   10                                   Div 2   7

Pros:

~ travel is restricted to within own region

Cons:

~ ability levels within a pool is greater (than in option A)

~ some Auckland area teams may not get out of Auckland

~ pool sizes within Divisions will change from year to year – depending on numbers of teams

~ teams will not get 8 ties in a year unless they are in a pool of 9

~ depending on which Region’s team is relegated from Div 1, more than 1 team may need to relegated to the next pool
- if pool sizes change as well
